Mathematical Treasure: Signature of Galileo Galilei

Author(s):
Frank J. Swetz (Pennsylvania State University)

Galileo often annotated books with notes and comments written in the margins. Here in an edition of his Sidereus nuncius (1610), his autograph can be found in the lower right margin.

This image is supplied through the courtesy of the University of Oklahoma Library, which has an extensive History of Science collection. The library's digitization of Galileo's Sidereus nuncius can be seen here. A page with two drawings of the moon, from a copy owned by Columbia University, is also in Convergence.
