Mathematical Treasure: Works of Gilles Personne de Roberval

A collection of Divers Ouvrages by Gilles Personne de Roberval (1602-1675) was published in Paris in 1693.

One of the curves whose properties Roberval studied was the spiral.

His most important work in geometry concerned the cycloid and his derivation of the area contained by the curve.
