Mathematical Treasure: Weierstrass Lecture Notes

During the 19th century, students from the United States seeking instruction in higher mathematics often studied in Germany, particularly at the universities in Berlin and Göttingen. Archibald Lamont Daniels (1849–1918) was one such student. In the academic years 1879–1881, in Berlin, he attended lectures by Karl Weierstrass (1815–1897) on analytic and elliptic function theory. Daniels wrote up his notes as Einige auf die Theorie der analÿtischen Functionen mehrerer Veränderlichen sich beziehende Sätze. Daniels returned to the United States to become a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Vermont.
