Mathematical Treasure: Collected Works of Laplace

Pierre-Simon Laplace (1749-1827) was one of France’s most eminent mathematicians of the eighteenth century. Noted for his work in applied analysis and probability, Laplace has many concepts in mathematics named for him and associated with him, most prominently the Laplace transform. In 1878, the French Academy of Sciences published the first volume of a complete collection of his works, with the fourteenth and final volume not appearing until 1912. This is an image of the title page for the first volume.
