Augustin Cauchy (1789-1857) is recognized as a talented mathematician whose expertise in varied fields of mathematics is equally well known. His Exercices d’Analyse et de Physique Mathématique (Exercises in Analysis and Mathematical Physics), written in four volumes during the period 1840-1847, is considered one of his most important works in applied mathematics. Volume I appeared in 1840.
